Should You Get a Snagging Survey on a New Build?

We recently completed a snagging survey on a newly built property, and it was a great example of why these inspections are so important.

Many buyers assume that because a property is brand new, it will be free from defects. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.

During this inspection, we identified several significant issues, including four loose bricks in the top course of masonry on the rear elevation, a radiator that was not securely fixed, areas of poor-quality pointing, and a leaking shower screen, along with a number of other defects.

While some issues may appear minor, defects such as these can lead to inconvenience, additional costs, and potentially more serious problems if they are not addressed.

The purpose of a snagging survey is to provide an independent assessment of a new-build property and identify defects that require attention before they develop into more significant issues. It also provides homeowners with a clear record of defects that should be rectified by the developer before moving in.

Purchasing a home is one of the largest investments most people will ever make. A snagging survey provides reassurance that the property has been thoroughly inspected and that any defects have been properly documented and brought to the developer's attention.

If you have recently purchased a new-build property, or are due to complete soon, feel free to get in touch to find out how a snagging survey can help protect your investment.
